Shalum, everyone. Today we’re going on a journey into one of the oldest writing systems on earth — Paleo-Hebrew, also called Ābarayat, the ancient script of our ancestors before the Babylonian captivity.
This isn’t just an alphabet lesson. Each letter in Paleo-Hebrew carries:
A pictograph (a picture of something in nature)
A meaning
A sound
A numerical value
And sometimes grammatical functions like prefixes or suffixes
By the end of this lesson you will:
✔ Recognize all 22 Paleo-Hebrew letters
✔ Know their meanings and sounds
✔ Understand how letters reveal thought patterns of ancient Hebrew culture
✔ Read simple words built from the letters
Let’s begin with the first group.
